東石國中 滿校盡是白布鞋

10年前，全台校園吹起一連串解禁風潮，但嘉義縣東石國中「鞋禁」至今未除，限穿白布鞋的規定施行逾20年，雖不時有家長、學生反彈要求鬆綁，但近千名學生穿白鞋全校趴趴走的畫面，已成東中一大傳統特色。
早年規定學生穿白鞋的學校比比皆是，10年前一波大解禁，限穿白鞋的學校銳減，尤其像東中規定從底色、材質、鞋帶、鞋底，甚至logo都要百分百全白的學校，應是絕無僅有。
鄰近的朴子國中和嘉義市玉山國中同樣要求穿白色運動鞋，但標準相對鬆寬，非白範圍可達3、40％，因此有東中家長上臉書社團PO文，希望校方能解禁或放寬標準，讓家長為孩子購買鞋子時，能多點選擇。
PO文引發民眾和校友熱烈討論，但意見兩極，有人認為鞋禁不合時宜，且規範鞋子款式和學生課業、行為規範是兩碼事；持支持立場的家長則說白鞋不難買，一致性的服裝儀容沒什麼不對；也有校友戲稱「北一女有小綠綠，東中有小白白，有何不可？」
學生多半對穿白鞋沒意見，卻還是希望解禁。黃姓國二生說，市面上白鞋款式很多，還是能買到喜歡的；蔡姓國三生說，白鞋缺點是容易髒，要多花時間擦洗；多數學生則說，除非上學，平日絕不穿白鞋，所以都會要求家長買第二雙運動鞋。
為何會有白布鞋傳統？東中校長黃國軍表示，據他了解，原本東中規定學生穿黑布鞋，直到20多年前某任校長才改成白鞋，可能跟當時趨勢有關，但真正緣由已不可考。一名在嘉義服務多年的教育人士說，早年白色象徵純真，加上穿白鞋可教育學生維持服裝儀容整潔，20、30年前曾風行一陣子，但像東中維持這麼久、標準一貫嚴格，確實罕見。
黃國軍說，他2年前接任，鮮少聽到家長對穿白鞋有意見，家長會更是全力支持，除和東中是純男校有關，多數家長觀念傳統，認為學生與其在意鞋子的顏色、款式，倒不如統一穿白色，少了外表上的比較、競爭，才能專心課業。
黃國軍透露，他曾實地進行市場調查，發現要買白色鞋子真的不難，從幾百元到數千元都有，且穿白鞋已是學校20多年傳統，除非真的造成家長購買上的困擾，才會考慮廢除，否則會繼續維持。
